ESL/TOEIC Program Outline


Course Objectives

Our objective for this program is to help students improve their language abilities in all areas:  Speaking, Reading, Writing and Listening.

Course Description

Advantage English School E/J offers various courses to suit all levels of learners, for people who want to improve their language skills. Building on previously existing skills, students will receive in depth practice centered on oral and written control of grammatical structures, and listening/reading comprehension. After completion of the course, students should have gained a solid grasp of all of aspects of the English language and should have significantly more knowledge in all areas.

Course duration

1 week – 44 weeks

   ♦ Full Time       4 Hours/Day x 5 Days   – 20 Hours/Week

     ♦ Part Time      3 Hours/Day x 5 Days  –  15 Hours/Week

Curriculum (Weekly)

The following is a sample of a typical weekly schedule. Throughout the course teachers use a wide range of materials which allow for more dynamic learning. The course includes use of textbooks(Side by Side, Focus on Grammar) TOEIC® materials and reading selections recommended by our teachers. We also hold practice tests to assess the student’s progression throughout the course.

This course is the perfect introduction for students who want to learn the basics of the English language. These students can say a few words in the target language, but are unable to make good, complete sentences. The emphasis is on getting students comfortable communicating and interacting in English. Basic language skills are taught such as present tense sentences, vocabulary, as well as simple greetings and expressions.


This course is for high beginners who already have a basic understanding of the English language. These students can make simple sentences slowly and understand present tense verbs. Focus is on past and future verb tenses and expanding vocabulary while improving general conversation abilities.


The intermediate course is for students who want to continue to develop their skills with emphasis on fluency and accuracy. These students can speak with more fluency than the beginning students and can make good sentences in basic past, present and future tenses. Focus is on perfect tenses, more specific vocabulary and improving fluency during conversation.


This level is for students who can use a variety of grammatical structures with some typical errors still prevailing. They can use wide range of vocabulary and have good overall comprehension. The High-Intermediate course is intended for learners who want to progress to a level where they can communicate their ideas clearly and with more confidence. These students will continue to develop their oral and written fluency in English.


This course is for advanced learners who can talk about a wide range of topics with a high level of accuracy. These students have excellent comprehension overall but still need to fine-tune their skills in a few areas. These students already speak the language very well but need some help with more complex grammar and tenses. Focus is on complex grammar and very specific vocabulary with enrichment from books and written assignments.

TOEIC® Preparation

The TOEIC® test (Test of English for International Communication) was developed as a means to evaluate the English language from an objective standpoint. It is used to measure a non-native English speakers’ aptitude in the English language and sets an international standard of measurement for the language which is required to get into universities and to obtain employment.

The course includes use of TOEIC® materials and books recommended by our teachers. On average, students in our school have improved their marks by a score of 40 to 70 points from the first test.



ESL/TOEIC Program has been approved by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training.

“Students who enroll in a language program which is six months or less in duration or for which tuition is less than $4,000 may not make a claim against the Student Tuition Protection Fund, which is managed by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training.  Further, this language program may not have been reviewed or approved by PTIB”.
